James Walter Sanker's Obituary
In Remembrance of James Walter Sanker
September 21, 1946 – April 21, 2026
James Sanker passed away on April 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy as enduring as the structures he helped maintain and the friendships he fiercely protected. Born on September 21, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Jane Elizabeth Crouch and Otto John Holme, James was later adopted by Mike Sanker. He carried the quiet strength of his Midwestern roots to Florida, where he would become a fixture of reliability and a true hero to those who knew him for over thirty years.
To those in Clearwater, James was the quiet architect of safety and restoration. A polymath of the trades, he possessed the rare ability to master any endeavor he set his mind to. Whether he was rewiring electrical systems, plumbing, or performing the delicate work of cutting leaded glass for vintage sash windows, he worked with precision and pride. His technical mastery was driven by a deep intellectual curiosity; he spent many hours studying medical science at the UCLA medical library and was a passionate student of science and technology. He held a particular fascination for aerospace, always keeping a keen eye on the innovations that pushed the boundaries of the known world.
James was a natural athlete and an excellent surfer who spent much of his life missing the legendary waves of Diamond Head, Hawaii—a place that remained in his heart long after he left its shores. He lived by a strict code of personal integrity, adamant against alcohol, drugs, and violence, and dedicated to a life of health and physical vitality. He was an extraordinary influence on everyone he met—a man of such character and discipline that he served as a role model for all. To many, he was someone to look up to, a constant in a changing world, and a man who could truly be called a hero.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Barb Sanker; and his nephew, David Mohoric. He is deeply and dearly loved by his surviving sister, Beverly Mohoric, of Edison, New Jersey. Though miles and years often stood between them, the bond of siblings remained. James will be remembered as a guardian of homes, a lover of the natural world, and a steadfast friend who stood by those he cared for until the very end.
