Yakle, James R.
94, of Dunedin, FL, passed away on November 3, 2017. Born in Brown County, Illinois, Jim attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. He was a W.W. II Army veteran serving in the European theater. After the war, he married Betty Kaylor and operated a retail lumber business in Illinois for two decades before moving to Florida with his family in 1962. In 1966, he opened Yakle Lumber Yard in Palm Harbor, FL, which he owned and operated until his retirement. Jim was one of the 14 founding members of the Palm Harbor Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Directors for ten years. Previous to that he served on the Board of Directors of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce. Jim was also a founding member of the Rotary Club of Palm Harbor and received the honorary Paul Harris Award. He was an active member of the Florida Lumber Dealers Assoc. for 20 years, serving on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer. At one time the Post Commander of Post 109, he was an active member of the American Legion for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty; his three children, Linda Yakle, Steven Yakle and wife Cindy, and Roxie Yakle Schmitz; and his three grandchildren, Cassie Schmitz, Jared Yakle, Allison Demianiuk and husband Alex. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Jim’s hometown of Timewell, Ill.
