Jane Elliott Boyd's Obituary
Jane (Jayne) Elliott Boyd died January 20, 2018 at Harborwood in Clearwater. Ms. Boyd was born February 16, 1933 in Shamrock, Florida, moving to Dunedin with her parents and family in 1934. She was the daughter of Robert U. Boyd, Sr., and Pearl Lowe Boyd of Dunedin, both deceased. She is survived by one sister, Anne Boyd Frazier and husband Dick of Erwin, Tennessee; three brothers, The Rev. Dr. L. Adlai Boyd and wife Karen of Asheville, North Carolina, The Rev. Dr. Richard C. Boyd and wife Susan of Beaufort, North Carolina, and David W. Boyd of Palm Harbor; five nephews and three nieces and their children. She was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Cherry Boyd and two brothers, Robert Ulric Boyd, Jr., and John Allen Boyd.
She attended schools in Dunedin, graduating from Clearwater High School in the Class of 1950, and earned an Associate of Arts degree from St. Petersburg Junior College in 1952 and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida in 1956, majoring in Communications. During high school and college, Ms. Boyd was active in the theater as well as in vocal music.
For a year following her time at St. Petersburg Junior College, Ms. Boyd worked for General Electric on the Nautilus Project at its Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Schenectady, New York.
After graduating from the University of Florida, Ms. Boyd entered a career in television, working in both film editing and in program management. She worked for WTVT in Tampa for ten years as film editor and film buyer. From 1966 to 1973, she worked at WVTV in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as program manager, one of only three female program managers in the United States. From 1973 to 1975 she joined WKYZ, a NBC affiliate, as program manager, the first ever for a NBC station. From 1975 to 1978, WKBS in Philadelphia made her its program manager, a job she moved into in St. Petersburg in 1978 at WTSP. In 1985 she became Vice President of Programming for KTXA / KTHA in Houston, Texas. In 1986 she returned to WTSP as a Contract Administrator, a job she retired from in 1996. After retirement she worked for Winn Technology Group in Dunedin doing market research and proposal writing.
Ms. Boyd had a keen interest in animals, owning many, especially show poodles. She also doted on her many nephews and nieces and their children.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, February 13th at Moss Feaster Funeral Home in Dunedin.
Ms. Boyd was privately interred at Dunedin Cemetery.
