Janet Clemens' Obituary
Janet Clemens, 78, of Dunedin, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, at Baycare Alliant Hospital in Dunedin, following an extended illness.
Janet was born on November 23, 1946, in St. Petersburg, and grew up there surrounded by her extended family. She was a 1964 graduate of Boca Ciega High School, and she then completed nursing school at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Janet was devoted to public nursing and her work in the communities she served positively impacted the lives of everyone for whom she cared. Janet stepped away from employed nursing in 1977 after the birth of her daughter, Katherine, yet she diligently kept her nursing license current for the remainder of her life. Janet loved learning and had a lifelong quest for knowledge, and she was devoted to helping and caring for others always.
In 1969, Janet met her husband of 53 years, Richard, and they were married on Sunday, July 18, 1971, at Pasadena United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, surrounded by their families and close friends. Janet and Rick loved travelling together, and they were fortunate to visit all the places they wanted to experience as tourists. In 2024, Janet completed her lifelong goal of visiting all 50 states while on a river cruise of the Mississippi River.
Janet loved gardening, and she maintained a sizeable vegetable garden and many various flower beds that she designed and planted herself. You could always find Janet in the garden!
Janet was a devout Christian and was a Charter Member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Clearwater for 48 years. She served in many lay leadership roles at Heritage, and she was a member of the Handbell Choir for nearly 40 years. Janet also served as the church's Parish Nurse, providing guidance and care to many in the church's congregation over the years.
Janet's greatest joy came later in life when her daughter, Christine, gave birth to her only grandchild, Isabella, in 2018. Janet and Bella had seven delightful years together, and they enjoyed travelling, gardening, and sewing together on many wonderful occasions.
Janet is survived by her husband, Richard, her daughters, Katherine (Timothy) and Christine (James), and her cherished granddaughter, Isabella and many other relatives in her extended family. She was preceded in death by her father and mother (in 1958 and 1959, respectively) and her beloved Cousin Judy, who loved Janet as a sister all her life.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31, at 1:00pm, at Heritage United Methodist Church in Clearwater. All are welcome.
