Janet Carol (Vaughn) Gougeon's Obituary
Janet Carol (Vaughn) Gougeon, age 84, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, March 26, 2025, in her winter home in Ozona, Florida. She was born on January 3, 1941, in Jackson, Michigan to the late JC Vaughn and Doy (Speese) Tenhunen.
In her youth, she moved to Bay City, Michigan, where she attended T.L. Handy High School, graduating in 1959. That same year, she was crowned Bay City St. Patrick's Day Parade Queen.
On April 24, 1971, Janet married her high school sweetheart, Meade Alger Gougeon, her beloved husband of 46 years, who preceded her in death on August 27, 2017. Throughout their marriage, they embarked on many adventures, but the one of which she was most proud was raising her family. Janet loved nothing more than babies and her favorite title in life was that of Granny to her beloved grandchildren. She loved being a mother to her children along with the many children of whom she became a second mom to over the years. Everyone was always welcome in Janet's home and there was always an extra spot at the dinner table. In her free time, you could be sure to find Janet by the pool or on the beach, savoring her latest novel, tending her garden, or spending time with her dearest family and friends. She was also a beloved dog mom to Charlie, Francois, Fanny, George, Molly & Samson.
Left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses: Glenn Kirkland, Anne Michelle and Randy Mortensen, M. Ryan and Janice Gougeon, Renee and Alan Gurski, Mia and Kwafo Adarkwa, Jae Gougeon, and Laura and Karl Wiegand; grandchildren: Sarah Millershaski, Emily (Michael) Sharp, Brianna and Adina Kirkland, Benjamin, Remington and Bellamy Gougeon, Kelsey Gougeon-Knapp, Jack, Elizabeth, and Madeline Gurski, Olivia and Lily Adarkwa, and Malaya Gougeon; great-grandchildren, Graham and Violet Millershaski; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and James Baldwin.
In addition to her husband, Meade, Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings: Peggy Sue Kauffold, Ann Barron, Duane Vaughn, Sandra Urband, and her sons, Gary Conrad Kirkland, and Benjamin Perry Gougeon.
Per Janet’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial celebration will be held this summer, with full details to follow. Contributions to honor her memory may be made to Smile Train.
