Janice Wayne's Obituary
Janice Wayne, 84, of Dunedin, FL, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025 (the anniversary of meeting the love of her life, Murray Segal) at Suncoast Hospice Care Center North Pinellas. Born and raised in Bradley Beach, NJ and Coral Gables, FL, she graduated from Coral Gables Senior High School. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Florida Gainesville.
Her stepchildren remember her as vivacious, outgoing, and a lover of the arts and sciences. She cherished her role as a high school Biology teacher, and then her acting career. She appreciated old movies, deep, philosophical conversations, Star Trek episodes, science fiction, eating cleanly, trade magazines and newspapers, and photographing her grandchildren.
She was a friend, a teacher, and a conversationalist. She was smart, talented, and thoughtful. She made friends and acquaintances wherever she went and was most alive and animated when around people. Janice exposed us all to her clean eating, making us aware of foods we knew little about, and then encouraging us to avoid foods containing additives and preservatives.
Janice is survived by her dear cousin, Bruce Kalnitsky; nephews, Glen and Jason Victor; niece, Corey Crosley (nee Victor); stepchildren, Karen Edwards (Rupert Bullard), Lisa Segal (Jay Rosenfeld), and Paul Segal (Laura Segal); sister-in-law, Frances Gensberg (Brookline, Massachusetts); and grandchildren, Drew, Derek, Zach, Olivia, Emma, and Gigi. She is preceded in death by her husband, Murray Segal; parents, Ben and Ceil Wayne (nee Kalnitsky); sister, Judy Victor (Howard); and brother-in-law, Mort Gensberg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association at https://donorservices.alz.org or to Suncoast Hospice Care Center North Pinellas at https://suncoasthospice.org/.
