Jean M Verlinden's Obituary
Jean Beatty Verlinden, age 99, formerly of Algonac, passed away peacefully, May 16, 2024 in Largo FL. She was born November 17, 1924 in St. Clair to the late Thomas and Esther Beatty. She graduated from Algonac High School Class of 1942 and was a member of the National Honor Society. Jean Married Richard “Dick” Verlinden on August 16, 1947. They were married for 47 years when he passed away on December 10, 1994.
Jean was a bank teller for Detroit Bank and Trust. After retiring she volunteered at Mease Hospital in Dunedin for many years, accruing over 1,000 hours of service. She was a member of the 1st Evangelical Lutheran Church, Algonac. She was a religious person who left her end-of-life decisions “In God’s hands” best words that described Jean were charitable, sociable, and loving life. She enjoyed shopping, cruises, supporting numerous charities, watching old movies on TV and going out to eat.
She is survived by nephews, Tim (Sharon) Roberts, Chris (Marcia) Roberts, the late Jamie (Gayle) Roberts; nieces, Barbara (Pat) Hengstebeck, Mary Beth West; great nephews, Mike and Brian Roberts, Gerred, Justin and Keith Pogge, Edwin Roberts, Torry Roberts, Matthew West; great nieces, Courtney McNealy, Sterie West; great-great nephews and nieces, Ian and Dimitri Roberts, Ben Pogge and Elijah Nash, Sagan Pogge, Charlie Pogge, Payton, Aubrey and Mason West, Dawson and Emily West, Thor and Mina McNealy, Delilah and Liam Roberts.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband Dick Verlinden, her sister Arlene Beatty Roberts, her nephew Jamie Roberts and special friends Beulah and Wanda.
Graveside services will be held June 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery, Algonac Michigan with visiting from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. at Young-Gilbert Funeral Home 1422 Michigan Street Algonac, MI 48001. A Celebration of Life will be held in Largo at the end of June, and details will be posted at a later time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Pinellas County, 3040 State Road 590, Clearwater, Fl .
