Jeanne G. Freeze's Obituary
Jeanne Gailbreath Freeze, 85, of Largo, FL passed away Feb. 10, 2018. Jeanne was born in August 1, 1932 in Deland, FL and retired from the Pinellas County School system after 38 years in 1992. She is preceded in death by her parents, Evalyn (nee’ Harper) and Hez Stallard Gailbreath, her brother Warren Stallard Gailbreath, Sr. and a dear friend, Pete, who helped her in many ways. Jeanne is survived by a cousin, Ed Gilliland and his wife Jean; a sister-in-law, Sarah Gailbreath (Warren Sr.’s wife), their children, Cheri Warner, Warren, Jr, Gary and Terry Gailbreath and by many great nieces and nephews. Jeanne attended public schools in Florida, Ohio and Georgia, and graduated from Waycross High School. Jeanne completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from Stetson University, Deland on June 7, 1954; received a Master of Arts degree from the University of South Florida on August 25, 1968. She was an educator for Pinellas County School district 1954 to 1992, teaching 11 years at Dunedin Elementary School, she became a district level elementary supervisor in 1968 and served as K-12 Director of Social Studies from 1983-1992. Jeanne was instrumental in developing Economic Education programs such as Enterprise Village. She especially enjoyed working with teachers and curriculum specialists developing instructional units and teaching materials. Jeanne also coordinated student law related programs including the School Resource Officer Program and Officer Friendly-type programs for various agencies. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, a charter member of Beta Iota chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the North Pinellas Retired Educators Association. Jeanne was a devoted member of the First Christian Church of Clearwater for over 50 years and among the families who started this church location. She volunteered extensively and was involved in many of the church’s activities. She started the church’s pre-school and taught every level of Sunday school at one time or another. Funeral service will be 3:00PM Tuesday, Feb 13th at First Christian Church, 2299 Drew St, Clearwater. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to the Pinellas County Education Foundation, 12090 Starkey Rd, Largo, FL 33773. Jeanne will be laid to rest with her family at Oakdale Cemetery, Deland, FL.
