Jeffery P. Henson's Obituary
Largo, FL - Jeffery P. Henson (aka Mr. Happy) of Largo formerly of Seminole passed away on June 29, 2023 after a short illness. Arrangements are being handled by Moss Feaster Funeral Home. Condolences and memories can be shared at MossFeasterClearwater.com.
Jeff was born on October 27, 1953 in Charleston WV to Jim and Shirley Henson. He married the love of his life, Kate Kenst on January 3, 1981. Even though he had no kids of his own he loved Kate’s extended family and really enjoyed playing with the grandkids.
Jeff graduated from Seminole HS and went back to school in his mid-thirties to get an education degree from the University of South Florida.
Jeff was a baseball enthusiast playing from the time he could join Little League and into high school. He was an avid Tampa Bay Rays fan from to day they were first formed until the day he died. He got angry at anyone he left the “Bay” out of their name. As an aside the Rays won on the day he passed.
Jeff was a teacher for nearly 25 years spending most of his time at Boca Ciega HS. He taught history at Bogie and was highly respected by the student body. He authored wildly popular history electives that had long waiting lists of students who wanted to enroll. He was elected teacher of the year and was commencement speaker on multiple occasions. He often said that teaching at Bogie was the best job/experience of his life and that they were his happiest years. In addition to teaching he also mentored teachers, not only new ones, but experienced teachers as well.
He was a pop culture and history trivia buff and could have been a Jeopardy star. He also liked to travel to historic places especially Washington, DC.
He is survived by his brother, Doug from Southboro, MA and his ex-wife Kate from Palm Harbor.
The celebration of “Jeff Nation” will be held on Thursday July 6th starting at 5:00 PM. It will be held at Applebees Restaurant, 5110 East Bay Dr. Clearwater, FL 33764.
In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to either the American Cancer Society or to Alcohol Anonymous (AAA).
