Jo Ann N. Simmons' Obituary
Simmons, Jo Ann (Grandmommy), 90, of Dunedin, passed away peacefully on September 22, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Sulphur Springs (Tampa) on April 5, 1933, to Viola Bailey Neumann and Francis J. Neumann, and moved to Dunedin at an early age. She was a beloved only child, and an accomplished dancer, skater, pianist, and seamstress. She attended Clearwater High School where she was cheerleader captain, played on the tennis team (was a State Doubles Champ), was the May Queen and on the Homecoming Court, was voted Best All Around, and met her husband, Nelson Simmons.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where her children attended school. She enjoyed attending her children’s many sporting events and supporting their schools. Later in life, she spent 10+ years as an administrator of the Pinellas Meals on Wheels program. She and Nelson built their own homes. She lived most of her life in Dunedin and lived at home until recently. She was a very beautiful, sweet, smiling, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who never spoke an unkind word.
She is pre-deceased by her parents and husband.
She is survived by her four children, John and Sara Simmons (Tampa), Lori and George Herring (Dallas), Kathryn Simmons (Dallas), and Jim Simmons (Palm Harbor). Her grandchildren are Matt and Coley Simmons, Liz and William Wolcott, Amber Simmons, Tyler Simmons, Jessica and Michael Gonzales. Her great-grandchildren are Saylor and JP Simmons, and Hale Wolcott.
On Sunday, October 8, from 5:00-7:00, there will be a gathering of family and friends at Moss Feaster Funeral Home at 1320 Main St., Dunedin, followed on Monday, October 9, at 10:00, with a Memorial Service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Meals on Wheels (Neighborly Senior Care Network, neighborly.org/donations/).
