Joan Z. Carpenter's Obituary
Joan Z. Carpenter, 81 passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012. She is survived by her loving family and friends. Joan was born February 10, 1931 in Cincinnati Ohio and moved to Indian Rocks Beach with her parents and brother. She attended Anona Elementary School, Clearwater High School and the Academy of Holy Names.Joan served in USAF as a Control Tower Operator. In December 1953, she married Donald L. Carpenter and after the birth of their only child, Sandy, they returned to Dunedin from Alabama to be closer to family. Joan had a 26 year career with General Telephone Company which included serving as Financial Secretary for the Local 824 IBEW from 1973 to 1984.Following retirement, Joan moved to High Springs Florida where she would attend stock car races with friends. Every Sunday she never missed a NASCAR Race – always decked out in her favorite driver's t-shirt – Dale Earnhardt! Every morning she began her day with a cup of coffee and the word jumble and crossword puzzle in the newspaper. She was a wiz at them!She eventually returned to Dunedin to be closer to family and volunteered at Morton Plant Hospital's for the Women's Center.Joan is survived by her daughter Sandy (Jack), grandchildren Sean (Michelle), Paul (Kathleen) and Ann (Randy) and 6 great-grandchildren, Megan, Gracie, Sara, Erin, Ty & Tristen. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made to Morton Plant Mease Foundation, Suncoast Hospice or The Humane Society of Pinellas.
