John A. "Jack" McAuliffe's Obituary
John A. (Jack) McAuliffe, 75, of St. Petersburg, passed away on February 17, 2015. He was the son of the late, John A. McAuliffe and Mary E. Fitzgerald and his younger brother ,Joseph V. McAuliffe. In 1966, he married Maureen C. Fogarty and they were blessed with 2 children. His daughter, Patricia A. McAuliffe married Paul Relyea and had a daughter, Erin. His son, John G. McAuliffe, who is recently deceased, married Karen Hurson and had 2 children, Kaitlyn and Patrick.
Several years after the passing of Maureen McAuliffe, Jack married Mary (nee Skau) in 1998. They blended their families together which included Mary’s children: Shawn Farrell and his son Brenden, Thomas Farrell and his wife Susan Rothenberg and their daughter Lia, Margaret, her husband Steven McInnes and their daughters, Kathleen & Molly and Michael Farrell.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He attended St. Angela Hall and Holy Cross grammar schools, St. Francis Prep H.S. in Brooklyn and graduated from St. Francis College with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He gave 2 years of service to the U.S. Army. He also coached CYO teams.
During his professional years, he was employed in NY by Independence Savings Bank, and held title of Senior Vice President at Richmond Hill Savings Bank for many years. He was the President of the Investment Officers of the Savings Bank of NY State. He also held position as Treasurer of the Girl Scouts of America in Nassau County. In his later years, he worked for the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC).
While living in Florida, Jack resided in the Clearwater/St. Petersburg area for the last 16 years with his wife, Mary. He worked at H&R Block as a Manager and certified tax preparer for 12 years in Bradenton. He served his church, St. Cecelia’s, as a Eucharistic Minister and worked Cold Night Shelters. He held the position of Treasurer and President of Blockbuster Investment Club in Bradenton for many years.
His favorite sports teams were NY Mets and Tampa Bay Rays. He had season tickets for many years to the Clearwater Threshers. Jack always took pride in knowing the stats for each individual player.
Jack was a very kind and loving man. He always had a smile on his face and made friends where ever he went. He was well loved by all his family, friends and coworkers.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 South Belcher Road, Clearwater, FL from 6 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 23, 2015 at 10AM at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church, 820 Jasmine Way, Clearwater, FL. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5750 49th St North, St Petersburg, FL. Memorial contributions can be made in John (Jack)’s memory to Suncoast Hospice, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33760.
