John Michael "Mike" Aunchman's Obituary
AUNCHMAN, John Michael “Mike” 48, passed unexpectedly into our Lord’s peaceful arms on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. Mike moved to Palm Harbor, FL from Southern Maryland to be near his parents L. John and Barbara Aunchman of Dunedin, FL. Beside his parents, Mike is survived by his sister, Amy Marie Dowell, North Beach, MD, uncle James (Marianne) Taylor, Walden, NY, cousin, Terry Aunchman, Land of Lakes, FL and all the many friends and extended family who knew and loved him. Mike was from a Navy family. He was born December 8, 1969 on Midway Island and lived in CA, FL and MD. He liked to call Maryland his home. He graduated from St. Mary’s Ryken H.S. Leonardtown, MD and attended classes at UNC Charlotte, and College of Southern Maryland.
Mike’s need for adventure led him to proudly serve in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Electrician working with the ‘Mighty COD’, C-2 aircraft, in North Island, CA and Atsugi, Japan. Upon Honorable Discharge from USN, Mike put his outgoing personality and work ethic to use in the Western and Southern Maryland hospitality industries. This career choice allowed him to pursue his passion as a low handicap amateur golfer. Front of the house experience and success led him to pursue knowledge of the back of the house so he earned the degree of Associate of Applied Science Culinary Arts from Anne Arundel Community College.
Mike always thought of others and delighted in surprising someone with a mutually meaningful gift from his personal memorabilia items. Florida heat was becoming tolerable to him because he could golf and/or fish St Joseph Sound and Tarpon Lake year-round in our 1951 Whirlwind boat, ‘Little Toot’. He will always be most remembered for his infectious great-big smile.
Roman Catholic Memorial Mass Service will be celebrated 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 750 San Salvador Drive, Dunedin, FL 34698. Charitable contributions may be may in his name to Fisher House Foundation, Inc., 111 Rockville Pike, Suite 420, Rockville, MD 20850.
