JOHN W. ROSS's Obituary
John W. Ross, 100, of Dunedin, died on March 29, 2012.He was born on July 4, 1911 in Rochester, NY, the eldest son of William and Elizabeth Ross. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his wife of 53 years Laurene and his wife of 21 years Retah. He was also pre-deceased by his brothers George, Clarence, William, and Allen and sisters Elizabeth, Gladys, and Margaret. He is survived by daughters Judith (Richard) McHale of Ontario, NY, Karen (Robert) Shuttleworth of Unionville, PA, son James of Tucson, AZ, stepdaughter Rebecca Holender of Dunedin, brother Henry of Palm Harbor, 5 grandchildren, 9 great -grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. John left high school in 1929 to help support his family, starting as a draftsman for Davenport Machine Tool Company in Rochester. He was employed there for 47 years, rising to the position of Vice-President/Secretary until it was aquired by Dover Corporation. While at Davenport, he served on the Board of Directors of the Davenport-Hatch Foundation for 33 years. John was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years in Penfield, NY, as well as the Scottish Rite and Egypt Shrine Temple in Tampa. He was also an active member of Brighton Reformed Chuch in Rochester, Webster Presbyterian Church in Webster, NY, and St Andrew's Prebyterian Church in Dunedin. John retired to Dunedin in 1977and became an active participant in the various social and sports organizations at Lake Highlander Mobile Home Park. He loved to travel and took numerous cruises and excursions throughout the World. One of his proudest personal accomplishments came in 2003, when he recieved his high scool diploma from Pinellas County Schools by passing his GED exams on the first try at age 92. John led an active life until shortly before his death and will be remembered fondly by his family and friends. He led an upright and noble life and is in a better place. A Memorial Service will be held at Moss-Feaster Funeral Home, Main St., Dunedin on Saturday, April 7 at 11AM.
