Obituary for Jon A. Supak
SUPAK, Jon Allen, 73 of Clearwater passed peacefully on March 13, 2016. He was born on September 3, 1942, in St. Louis Park, Minnesota to parents, Nathan Supak and Shirley Gross Supak. Jon attained many accomplishments. In education, graduating with a BA from Washington and Lee University in 1965 as class valedictorian, where he was part of the first class of Jewish students to attend. He continued his higher education obtaining a Masters in Philosophy from Harvard, one of the early Jewish student classes to attend. Both he and his brother, Tom, attended these schools together where they were basketball stars, with the potential to go pro. Later, he was selected as a Fulbright scholar allowing him to go to study at Edinburgh University, Scotland.
Following school he co-founded, and with his brother and parents, co-ran the Ann Klein Clothing Company that was originally called, Supak & Sons, a winter coat company started in Minnesota. Later, he became an art dealer, starting and owning The Big Game Company and Gallery, which provided art to many retail and private establishments.
He was a social activist in the 1960’s and an avid animal rights activist to this day; caring for animals and wholeheartedly supporting the Earth Organization. He helped to raise and advise his niece, Jennifer Wren Supak, throughout her life.
His parents, Nathan Supak and Shirley Gross Supak, predecease him. Survivors include his identical twin brother, Tom Supak (spouse, Margaret); ex-wife, Francoise Supak, who loves him immensely; nieces, Jennifer Wren Supak and Kate Garfield; nephews, Andrew Chalmers and Raoul Marchand; great niece, Sarah Malherbe.
Many people knew Jon, and as the family explains, “A lot of people loved Jon Supak, he was the rock, cornerstone and father of this family.”
A service is planned for this Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 1:00 pm at the Church of Scientology. His friend of forty years, Hanne Nelson shall conduct the memorial service.
