Jon Howard Van Praagh's Obituary
Jon Howard Van Praagh, 85, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026. Born on April 30, 1941, in Passaic, New Jersey, to Harold and Mollie Van Praagh, Jon lived a life defined by his love of family and appreciation for life's simple pleasures.
Jon is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Judith Rae Van Praagh (Strassman); his children, Alisa Van Praagh, Steven Van Praagh, and Jill Van Praagh; and his cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Dannah, Kimi, and Shara. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose love, guidance, and steady presence will be deeply missed.
While living in New Jersey, Jon owned and operated his own business in East Windsor, where he earned the respect of customers and friends through his integrity, dedication, and strong work ethic.
During the last decade of his life, Jon made his home in Florida, where he embraced the warm weather that he loved and often joked was the perfect escape from the cold. There, he combined his lifelong passion for golf with his love of teaching, serving as a golf instructor at Westchase Golf Club. Whether helping a new golfer improve their swing or sharing stories with friends on the course, Jon found great joy in the game and in the people it brought into his life.
Jon and Judy treasured their years together in Florida. They enjoyed walks, dining out, attending art shows, visiting with friends and family, and taking weekend trips to explore the area. Jon looked forward to his drives up north to see his children for the holidays. Their life together reflected a remarkable partnership and 62 years of unwavering dedication to one another.
Jon will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind heart, and willingness to share his knowledge with others. He enjoyed teaching, offering advice, and engaging those around him with his wisdom and perspective. His warmth, humor, and genuine interest in people left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Jon's legacy lives on through his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends. Though he will be deeply missed, the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family finds comfort in knowing that Jon's spirit will forever remain with them—on every walk, every round of golf, and in every moment spent together, just as he would have wanted.
