Today is the memorial service for my lovely sister. She entered this world as a daughter and through her life became a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
She was my second mother who protected me, watch over me, always had the wisest advice and comforting wisdom like no other.
My parents passing was naturally difficult, but my sister is harder. Joyce was my 1st love and best friend.
Thank you God for letting her Passion be peaceful and not alone. You will be missed and never ever forgotten.
May you now wrist in peace.

As I reflect on "Joycie," I recall how close she and my mother, her " Auntie Detta," were. Only 17 years apart in age, they seemed more like sisters than aunt-niece. And the great love and respect they had for one another were obvious. In keeping with my mom's vision of Heaven, I imagine them sitting together at a large umbrella table holding hands and swapping stories about the "good ole days."
I also remember the many Feasts of the 7 Fishes that we would celebrate in Joycie's home. The food and camaraderie of those Christmas Eve gatherings was amazing! The memory makes me smile.
She was kind and thoughtful to all, and to me, in particular, during those difficult teen age years right after my parents separated. I will miss her greatly.
Unfortunately, most of my mother's pictures and memorabilia were destroyed in a flood at the Country Club Motel-remember that? But I did find this shot of Joycie with her great-grandfather, Will Rudiger.
