Joyce B. Hunt's Obituary
Joyce B.Hunt,89, of Clearwater, Florida passed away 20 October. Joyce was born in Mt. Vernon, New York and attended high school and Business School in New York City. She was married to her husband Harold for 67 years. Her initial career job was as a personal assistant to the President of a major Madison Avenue Advertising Agency in the city. She relocated to a government position at White Sands Missile Range while her engineer husband served in the military and completed his Master’s degree. They relocated to the North Shore of Long Island until being transferred to Clearwater with Sperry Microwave Electronics in 1958.
Joyce had three children: Steven D. Hunt, born in New York; James R. Hunt and Stacie A. Hunt born in Florida. While the children were growing up she volunteered as President and Resale Shop Manager of SPARCS providing major benefits to Retarded Children through coordination with UPARC.
On her return to full time work she initially worked for Keppie Travel and subsequently for Compass Travel as a Travel Consultant. In these roles she was able to travel extensively and personally escort overseas tours over a period of 30 years. Joyce and her husband acquired a town house on Lake Lure in North Carolina where they spent several months every summer after the year 2000. They were members of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Clearwater, Florida and Fairfield Mountains Chapel in North Carolina.
Joyce is survived by her husband; her son Steven and his wife Dr. Julie Hunt of Clearwater; their son Dr. Travis Hunt and his wife Brandace and great granddaughter Isla (age 2) also of Clearwater. Her second son, James lives in Colorado and has two daughters; Kelsey in Washington, DC and Larissa in Boulder, CO. Her daughter Stacie lives and works in Columbia, MD and has a recently engaged son Tyler who works in Washington, DC. In addition, her “other daughter” Carolyn Steele lives in St. Louis MO with her daughter Maria.
The family travelled on multiple scuba/snorkel trips throughout the Caribbean and Mediterranean as the children grew up. They owned outboard boats in both FL and NC. Her favorite memories are of extensive travels visiting multiple overseas locations with great houses and castles and traveling in conjunction with friends.
A memorial service will be held on November 17th at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Clearwater. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to dog rescue organizations.
