Karen Stinson's Obituary
Karen Stinson, 83, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, with her daughter by her side—exactly as she would have wanted.
Karen was a lifelong storyteller with a sharp wit and a fondness for collecting both memories and treasures. A former cheerleader who never quite grew up (thankfully), she found joy in simple pleasures such as holidays, a good bargain, and cheering loudly for her beloved KU—though she never quite forgave her daughter for not attending KU and securing basketball tickets.
She was known for her stubborn resilience, surviving more than her doctors and family ever expected, and for loving her family and small circle of friends. She is survived by her daughter, two beloved grandchildren, two brothers, and a sister. She was preceded in death by her cherished cat, Tux.
Karen would have preferred laughter over tears and hoped to be remembered for the joy she found in everyday moments. Wherever she is now, she’s likely setting someone straight—and trying to get a bargain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Strays in St. Petersburg, Florida, in her honor.
