CARLEY, Katherine Verdery “Paddy”
Paddy Carley, 86 passed away peacefully on March 12, 2018 in Clearwater, Florida surrounded by family.
Paddy was born in Augusta, Georgia to Charles Belk Verdery and Geneva McCall Verdery on December 30, 1931 and was raised in Atlanta. She graduated from Washington Seminary (Westminster) in Atlanta and attended Stetson University.
Paddy and C. David Carley, Jr., “Dave” were married August 28, 1952 in Atlanta and over 14 years gave birth to six children. In 1978 they moved with their three youngest children to Belleair, Florida.
Paddy and Dave were socially active. They could be found regularly playing golf, travelling and generally enjoying life. Paddy was particularly energetic and had dozens of close friends. She was very competitive and loved games with both children and adults alike. She participated up until her passing in multiple bridge groups, a regular afternoon scrabble engagement and a daily date with newspaper crossword puzzles. She was an active golfer up until recent physical limitations intervened and occasionally reminded her golfing family of her holes-in-one. Paddy and Dave were active parishioners at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church.
Paddy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Dave and six children- David III “Dave” (Suzanne), Atlanta, Ga.; Michael “Mickey” St. Simons Island, Ga.; Claudia Moore “Sissy” (Rocky) Athens, Ga.; McCall (Brenda) Apollo Beach, Fla.; Kathy Olson Clearwater, Fla; and Clair Volding Denton, Texas. Further, Paddy and Dave have 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren all affectionately referring to her as Pat-Pat. Paddy’s sister, Marion Collins of Atlanta, Ga. also survives her.
A Requiem Mass will be held at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church 820 Jasmine Way, Clearwater Florida 33756 at 10:30 AM Friday March 23, 2018. Following Mass a reception will be held. A private interment is scheduled at a later date at Bay Pines National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paddy’s memory may be made to The American Cancer Society 3709 West Jetton Ave. Tampa, Fla. 33629.
