Kathleen Bloom's Obituary
Kathleen Ruth Osgood Bloom, 75, of Seminole, FL, and formerly of East Concord, NH; Lancaster, PA; Palm Bay, FL; Colorado Springs, CO; Ephrata, PA; Gaithersburg, MD; and Lake Meade near East Berlin, PA, passed away on December 4th after a sudden illness.
Born in East Concord, NH, Kathy was the daughter of the late Fred N. and Jean Carol Crosby Osgood.
Kathy is survived by her husband of 55 years, William G. Bloom; her children, Emily (William Dervaes) of New Port Richey, FL, Matthew (Erika) of East Berlin, PA, and Rosa (Phillip Hatch) of Hanover, PA. She was the proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren: Ashton (25), Aislinn (23), Ella (22), Jaxson (21), Jenna (20), Gabriel (18), Nathan (17), Maximus (16), Tyler (15), Dakota (14), Lilly (12), Naomi(10), Willa (10), and Remi (8).
She is also survived by her siblings Mark Osgood (Julie) of Moultonborough, NH; Martha Morrill (David) of Dorchester, NH; Nancy Edwards of Las Vegas, NV; John Osgood of Canterbury, NH; and Judy Carlson of Clearwater, FL. Kathy was predeceased by her parents; her sister Susan Malloy; and her sister-in-law Katherine Osgood.
Professionally, Kathy dedicated her career to serving others. She worked as a social worker for Lancaster, Pennsylvania’s Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Department, supporting families raising children with intellectual or developmental challenges. She also served as a Social Worker for the State of Maryland in the Department of Welfare.
In her younger years, Kathy could whip up a flawless batch of chocolate chip cookies without a recipe. She loved exploring flea markets and antique shops, collecting Fisher-Price toys and unique playthings dating back to the 1920s. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family throughout the United States, to the Bahamas, and to Scotland. Scrapbooking was one of her great passions, and she became a devoted scrapbooker, attending many scrapbooking “crops.”
In recent years, she found joy in Asian drama series. Somehow—no one is quite sure how—she managed to follow the subtitles while simultaneously working word-find puzzles or reading a good book.
She was my compass and my Princess, and I will miss having her by my side.
At Kathy’s request, there will be no public services, but she loved sending and receiving cards. In place of flowers, please send her a card with a thought, a prayer, a memory, or something else. The family will read these during her internment at Bay Pines National Cemetery, FL, at a future date. Kathy Bloom PO BOX 339 East Berlin, PA 17316
