Kenneth C. Goodwin Sr.'s Obituary
Goodwin, Kenneth C., Sr, 85 years old of Dunedin, FL, and South Windsor, CT, died peacefully on October 8, 2013. He is survived by wife, Sally(Keleher) Goodwin of 63 years, sons, Ken Jr., Thomas, James and John and daughter Jane. Ken grew up in Somerville, Mass., where he was a standout basketball player which earned him a full scholarship to Rhode Island State University. Ken was high scorer, captain and an All American and was drafted by the Providence Steam Rollers of the NBA who combined with the Boston Celtics. After his service of 16 months in the Korean War, Ken was the Captain and Officer in charge of the Fort Dix basketball team until he left the reserves and enrolled in Springfield College as a physical education major in the masters program. During this time, he played basketball for the British American Club in Manchester, CT. Upon receiving his masters, he was hired as the recreation director in Springfield ,VT where four of his five children were born. His next job was athletic director at Womogo Regional High School in Litchfield, CT. In 1963, he and Sally with their five children, moved to South Windsor where he accepted a teaching position at Penney High School in East Hartford,CT. Ken also coached basketball and baseball at Penney along with announcing the home football games.After he and his wife Sally retired, they bought her parents home in Dunedin, and spent many happy days there entertaining his adult children, grandchildren and friends. As Ken would say " another day in paradise".An athletic director, teacher, recreation director, coach, salesman,small business owner, korean war veteran,rotarian, an avid golfer, setback player and Red Sox fan, Ken Sr. had a full life. A service will be at Moss Feaster Funeral Home on 1320 Main street, Dunedin Florida on Saturday, November 16,2013 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Sun Coast Hospice or the Foundation at Dunedin Country Golf Club.
