Leon D. Long's Obituary
Leon D. Long, age 89, of Dunedin, Florida (formerly of Hicksville, Long Island, New York), passed on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Brookside Hospice House in Palm Harbor, Florida.Leon was born in Mississippi, but lived in New York where he was a Pressman at the New York Times Newspaper for 42 years.He was a Veteran, having served and been wounded in the European Theater during World War II. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hicksville where he served as a Head Usher. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society, The Knights of Columbus and President of the New York Times VFW Post. He loved to travel, enjoyed music and was a voracious reader. Leon is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rita; and five children: daughter, Carol Ann of California; son, James (Eva) of PA.; daughter, Janey Peisker of New York; son, Patrick (Gail) of New York; daughter, Rita of Nevada. He is survived by eight grandchildren and two siblings, a brother, Paul Wise of Texas and a sister, Dean Cummins of Mississippi. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 9:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hicksville, New York.Memorial Donations: In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Leon's Memory to Smile Train, The Guidedog Foundation of Smithtown, New York or Suncoast Hospice.
