Lou Legrand's Obituary
Lou LeGrand, 86 (Momma Kitty)
Mattie Lou Dickinson LeGrand, 86, wife of the late Carl LeGrand, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away peacefully, Friday, May 31, 2019.
Lou was born June 5, 1932 in Charleston, South Carolina to Mattie (Veno) and Lawton Atkins.
On February 18, 1950 Lou married Carl LeGrand in Charleston, SC. Carl was a soldier so Lou became a military wife. She followed him to Texas, Guam, South Carolina, North Carolina, Germany, and back to South Carolina. Lou worked as a Medical Transcriptionist. She was also a wonderful artist and poet. She was very involved in the Unity Church and helped found a new church in Myrtle Beach.
Lou was an avid reader, and a student of all things spiritual. She enjoyed cooking and baking. One of her true joys was to ‘play’ the in the kitchen with her granddaughters. She loved cats and candles. She would laugh and say that this combination often led to flaming cat tails! She was a special woman and will be deeply missed. A friend once said that Lou was the sky and Carl was the earth. Well, they are back together now making beautiful sunsets.
Lou is survived by her son Jay LeGrand and his wife Mary, her daughter Diana Ector and her husband Lane, her granddaughters Danielle Zecher and her husband Nicholas, Gabrielle LeGrand, Briana Fernandez and her husband Brent, her step-granddaughter Jordan Lykens and her husband Steven, and her step-grandson Austin Ector.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 8th in the Peace Chapel at Unity Clearwater, 2465 Nursery Rd, Clearwater, FL 33764. Minister Leddy Hammock will be officiating. A reception will follow at the home of Diana and Lane Ector, 12230 91st Way N, Largo FL 33773.
