Louis F Walsh's Obituary
Louis Francis Walsh, 91, of Dunedin, Florida passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born in County Mayo, Ireland in 1933, he moved to New York City with his family at age 13. He later joined the U.S. Army, where he served for two years, contributing to Project Nike. He attended Hunter College on the GI Bill and graduated with a degree in Geology.
Louis met the love of his life at a parish dance, and they married at Our Lady of Good Counsel (NYC) in 1959. They moved to Baltimore, MD and raised five children. Louis was a devoted husband and affectionate father, always prioritizing family. Their lives were filled with day trips to “Pennsyltucky” and RV adventures across the country where Louis loved to point out rock formations and visit Civil War battlefields. Louis was an avid reader and historian and instilled a love for learning in his children. His family of seven filled the pews each Sunday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and Parish Council president.
For nearly 40 years, Louis worked at the Bethlehem Steel tin mill in Sparrows Point, MD. In retirement, he and his wife built their dream home in Great Cacapon, WV where they volunteered with Meals on Wheels. As snowbirds and later residents of Dunedin, FL they volunteered for over 20 years with CareLift of Mease Dunedin Hospital. At his passing, Louis had been a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family since 2005.
Louis was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Claire (Kellar) Walsh; his parents, Patrick and Brigid Walsh; and his sister, Mary (Walsh) Devaney.
Louis is survived by his brother, Michael Walsh; his children Peggy (Jim) Fry, Nancy (Beth) Walsh, Mary Walsh (Michael) Elardo, Kathleen (Grant) Gould, Paul (Allison) Walsh; nine grandchildren, Stephen and Kevin Fry, Jordy Elardo, Megan and Claire Walsh, Christine and Shannon Gould, Rowan and Keenan Walsh; one granddaughter-in-law, (Lauren Vine); and one cherished great-grandson, Louis Quincy Vine Fry. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews; and by a sister-in-law, Sr. Nancy Kellar, SC.
