Lura M. Gillis' Obituary
Lura M. Gillis, 89, a resident of OTOW Clearwater, Florida, passed on to be with our lord, Saturday February 16, 2013. Born in Bowling Green Kentucky, August 9, 1923, she moved to Clearwater in 1974 from Springfield, Virginia. She married Arthur Gillis in Annapolis Naval Academy, July 1945, celebrating the end of WWII on their honeymoon. They enjoyed many years traveling the world in the USNA. Lura was a gifted educator and mentor, teaching Home Nursing on Guam and Home Economics in Virginia. Lura was a long time member of Northwood Presbyterian Church, a Deacon, Woman's council leader also an active member of the Clearwater Woman's Club, Member of the US LURA club, and accomplished artist member of the American Bunka Embroidery Guild. A BS from Mary Washington College of UVA and a MA in Nutrition from Virginia Tech, she was a very giving individual who made those around her feel loved and appreciated. She made sweetness, openness, honesty and humor a big part of her life and spread it to those around her as she is an angel with a special place reserved for her in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Gillis, mother, Lauretta Korth, siblings Herbert Korth and JD Hutchens. She is survived by daughter, Joan Baker, granddaughters, Analisa Tarantino and Erica Carlsson, and siblings Roy Korth, Charles Hutchens & LaVerne Arnold.
