Lynette H. Ludden's Obituary
Ludden, Lynette Huff
Our wonderful Mom, AKA Grammie, Great Grammie, Aunt Lynette, Lyn,
Helen Lynette, Rabbit, or Chief Cook and Bottle Washer, Original Foodie, Scout Leader, P.E.O. President, Champ bridge player, Holiday Celebrator Extraordinaire, Gardener, Positive Polly, was truly one in a million!
She was Mom to more than her 5 children - she took in spouses, friends, neighbors- even friends of friends!
Born to Helen Page and William Lindley Huff on June 25, 1925 in Decatur, Illinois, she was the youngest of the 3 Huff children. She went to the University of Wisconsin, became a die-hard Badger fan, and fell in love with her future husband, Joe Ludden, who was a waiter at the PiBeta Phi sorority house.
Upon graduation, she moved to Kankakee, Illinois and became a radio DJ, which left her with an amazing knowledge of WWII and Big Band music. Dad swept her away 6 months later, and they began their life in La Crosse, Wi, where they raised five children.
It's hard to think of an area she was not interested in - sports, politics, religion, art, music, dance, cooking, and rhubarb! She would challenge us all - there was no complaining that wasn't met with "Where is your Pioneer Spirit?" But she was each child's biggest fan and supporter. In addition, she could bring laughter to any situation, sometimes resorting to harmless, but funny pranks. She taught us to poke fun of our own shortcomings, which made for lively banter. She would relentlessly correct our grammar, and insisted we "Mind your manners."
Lyn was a true believer in volunteering, and insisted we answer the call to aid - and what an example she set!
Loves??? Babies, dogs, children, family, music, aqua, the outdoors, changes of seasons, golf, baking, sharing, party planning, new cars, Epworth.and the Oktoberfest Experience! The ultimate community involvement, camaraderie and bonding became so important. It was a favorite topic, treasuring new friends and memories made. The annual steins reminded her of great stories she shared with us in her last years, whatever she was experiencing was her "Favorite!' What a spectacular attitude!!!
She is joining husband Joseph Emmett, son Gregory, her parents and
brother Richard Huff, and a multitude of friends and relatives. She leaves behind Julie, (Bud), Cay, Mike,(Nancy) and Ellyn, daughter-in-law Kathy, her remarkable older sister Dorothy Morey, 11 grandchildren, 8 great
grands, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was treated so kindly in her last few months, which was difficult due to Covid restrictions. This was truly appreciated by her immediate family.
A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. Raise you glass and toast to a life appreciated and well-lived!
In lieu of flowers, donations to her commitment to literacy would be
welcome: Visit www.peointernational.org. Look for the "giving
opportunities" link on the home page. Or, to the Alzheimer's Assn at:

She will join her beloved husband, Joe, in a private service on September 15 at the Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse, Wi. There will be 2 mass intentions said in her name, Tuesday, Sept.15 at 5:15pm and Friday, Sept. 18 at 12pm. Please contact the Roncalli Newman Center at 608-784-4994 for specific information.
