Haffey, Margaret Mary's Obituary
Margaret Peggy Haffey, age 77, passed away peacefully in her home with family present on November 18, 2024. She was attended by staff of Empath Suncoast Hospice. Peggy was born January 22, 1947 in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Business College and attended classes at the Luzerne County Community College. She also received her paralegal certificate through Columbus State Community College. Her first job was with a law firm in Wilkes-Barre. Peggy worked as a secretary at both the Pennsylvania State University and the Ohio State University, a legal secretary for firms in Pittsburgh and Columbus, and a paralegal in Columbus, Newark and Norwalk (Ohio).
She was a devoted wife to her husband, Martin Haffey, for 56 years. They raised their daughter, Darcy (Haffey) Brandt and son, Randall Haffey in PA and Ohio. In 2007 the Haffeys moved from Sandusky, Ohio to Dunedin, Florida where Peggy retired. Three years later, Martin retired from his job as director at the Norwalk Public Library and joined her. Peggy enjoyed collecting art, exploring beaches, swimming, decorating, fine dining, and visiting the Dunedin Public Library. Peggy took an active role as a two-term board member of the Edgewater arms Condominium Assn. Building #2. Later, she became a member of the Master Board of the Edgewater Arms Condo Assn. Her interest expanded to attending plays, concerts, art shows, and book reviews.
Peggy was always happy seeing her grandchildren, Benjamin Brandt, Nathaniel Brandt; their father Michael Brandt of Holiday, Florida; and their mother, Darcy. She and Martin would travel to the Ft. Myers area to spend time with Remi Chanel Haffey; her mother, Stacey Hudak-Grant; and her father, Randall. She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Martin; and mother, Margaret Curtin Martin of Wilkes-Barre PA.
A Remembrance Celebration will be held for Peggy on Sunday December 8, 2024 in the lobby of EAC Building #2 at 622 Edgewater Drive in Dunedin, Florida from 2:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, Peggy requested that guests donate to the Toys For Tots project sponsored annually at the condo by Building #2 Recreation Members. Parking is available across the street at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.
