Margaret J. Metz's Obituary
Margaret Jennings Metz- Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on March 7, 2021. Margaret was born in Montgomery, Alabama on October 14, 1945 and had a wonderful childhood. Margaret’s kind heart was evident from an early age and her lifelong friendships were deeply cherished. Margaret’s compassion for children led her to major in Education in college and upon graduation, Margaret relocated to Clearwater to be closer to her parents. Soon thereafter Margaret met the love of her life, Bob, at church. They married on June 22, 1968 and shared a long, happy marriage rooted in their Faith, devotion to family, and deep love for each other. Margaret and Bob had three children together--being a mother was a role Margaret cherished and selflessly devoted herself to. Margaret was a bright light and admired for her optimism and commitment to helping others.
The community could always depend on Margaret for putting service above self. Margaret proudly served the following organizations: Junior League of Clearwater/Dunedin (President and Board of Directors), Episcopal Church of the Ascension (Vestry member, Stephens Minister, Sunday School Teacher), YWCA (Board Member), Florida Geriatric Research Foundation (Board Member), Florida West Ballet (Board Member), Cancer Luncheon for American Cancer Society (Chairwoman and Committee Member), Gateway Children’s Center (Board Member), Child Development Center of Peace Memorial Church (Board Member), Debutante Ball (Chairwoman and Board Member), Questors Antique Club (President), Clearwater High School (Chairwoman of REACH Program), De Paul School for Dyslexia (Tutor). When she wasn’t volunteering, Margaret could often be found cheering for her granddaughters at their sporting events. She loved going to lunch and shopping with her daughters and on weekends in the Fall you could always find Margaret watching football--Auburn was her first love but shared a love of the Seminoles and Buccaneers with her son.
Always radiant, she led by example and was the perfect model for unconditional love, humor, and inner strength. She will be profoundly missed by all. Margaret was preceded in death by her mother Martha McCuskey, father William Jennings, step-father Scott McCuskey, and is survived by her husband Bob Metz, daughter Melissa Erickson (Kurt), daughter Merriann Metz (John), son Bobby Metz (Jill), four granddaughters (Megan, Grace, Poppy and Maclaine) and her brother William Jennings.
Margaret, you were always happy to give so much yet you asked for so little in return. Thank you for always encouraging us, teaching us, listening to us, forgiving us, loving us and always lighting the way for us. We will work hard to reach the standard you set. Farewell for now beautiful, you were and are magnificent. Services to be held at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension (701 Orange Ave, Clearwater, FL 33756) on March 27, 2021 at 10:00 am.
