Margaret Isabel Scruggs' Obituary
On December 29,2018, Margaret (Margie) Scruggs passed away to join her beloved husband Mark and her mother Nini. She resided at John Knox Village which is now Concordia Village for over 10 years.
Margaret was born in Florida, attending Holy Name School and was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy’s second graduating class of 1938. She attended business school and was employed at Drew Field.
She met her future husband through her Uncle Horace who worked at MacDill AFB. Mark Scruggs was stationed there as an airman at that time. Mark and Margie were married a few months later at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tampa, Florida.
Mark left the U.S. Army Air Corp after WWII as a warrant officer. After a short hiatus in civilian life he reenlisted in the US Air Force and served for 20 years. Margie worked for the City Comptroller’s Office in Tampa upon Mark’s retirement, while Mark took up a second career at Sears Department Store for another 20 years.
Margaret also worked at the Base Hospital and Provost Marshall’s Office while they were stationed at Ramey AFB in Puerto Rico.
They were active members of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Largo, Florida. They belonged to the China, Burma, India WWII veteran’s organization, the Sears Retiree Lunch Club and both volunteered at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida.
Mark passed away June 6,1999, just short of their 57th wedding anniversary.
Margie will be laid to rest beside her husband at Sylvan Abbey in Clearwater, Florida. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena on Friday, January 4th , 10AM.
Survivors include son Mark Alan (Mary Ann), granddaughters Donna Scruggs, Susan (William) Alexander, Kelly (John) Greenfield, great-grandchildren, Laura, Brenna, Blake, Kyra, Clay, Cade and Keilyn all residing in Colorado. And cousins Leonard Vidal and Alice Wills.
