Marguerite C Devine's Obituary
Marguerite C. Devine was born in Revere, MA. on May 24, 1924 to Mary Foley Campbell and Henry D. Campbell. She lived in Gloucester, MA. until the death of her mother shortly before she was 4 years old. She then went to live with her mother’s cousins Elizabeth and Josephine McDonald in New London, Ct.
She graduated from Williams Memorial Institute in 1941 and the New London School of Business in 1943 and started working at the telephone company. She married Julian “Bud” Devine in 1947 and had four children. They were married for 48 years.
She was an active and involved Mom, who drove any kids who could fit in the car to the beach during the summer. She enjoyed knitting, making scarves, hats, mittens and sweaters, plus many Christmas stockings as gifts for her own children, grandchildren and the babies of friends. She also loved to read and shared that with her children. After she retired from the Town of Waterford as a secretary, she took courses at Three Rivers Community College just for the fun of learning. She also volunteered at Hospice for several years. She loved to travel and took trips all over Europe with Bud and after his death, the US and Alaska.
As a grandmother she was always there for all her grandchildren, attending games, parties, rocking new babies, going on vacations with the kids and always ready to read a story or two. And she really enjoyed her great-grandchildren and their photos on her bulletin boards.
She had a very strong Catholic faith and was a member of the Mother’s Circle in New London, Ct. with many lifetime friends for many years.
In her later years she moved to Florida, residing in Lakeland and then Dunedin, living at Mease Manor. She made many new friends there and participated in the Writing Group, which she enjoyed thoroughly.
Everyone who knew her will remember she always had a smile on her face and never a complaint. She loved to hear about what everyone was doing and made all who met her feel important and a part of her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Maureen O’Brien and husband J.R. of Southborough, Ma., Kathleen Gerritt and husband Ford of Clearwater, Fl. and Mimi McLaughlin and husband Bill of Dedham, Ma. Also her grandchildren Michael O’Brien and wife Margaret, Joe O’Brien and wife Yota Kariotis, Erin Dubose and husband Anthony, Chris Gerritt, Leigh Velez and husband Izzy, Matt Devine and wife Heather, Kyle Devine and wife Sheena,
Liam McLaughlin, Deirdre McLaughlin, and Connor McLaughlin.
Great-grandchildren are Daisey, Desi, Juliana, Grace, Calvin, Curtis, Colin,Jude, Cooper and Leilani.
She was predeceased by her parents, the cousins who raised her, husband Julian “Bud” Devine, son Kevin Devine and grandson Shamus McLaughlin. She was also predeceased by all her siblings.
Because reading was so important to her, we as in lieu of flowers donations be made to either the Dunedin Public Library, 223 Douglas Ave., Dunedin, Fl. 34698 or your local library in her name.
A gathering of friends will be held on Saturday, November 17th from 3 pm to 3:30 pm followed by a celebration of life beginning at 3:30 pm at Moss Feaster Funeral Home in Dunedin.
Interment will be in New London, Ct. on December 1, 2018.
