Marjorie C. Young's Obituary
Marjorie C. Young, 92, died peacefully December 3, 2017, in Clearwater, Florida. She and her husband, Walter S. Young, Jr., lived in Toledo, OH; Darien and Greenwich, CT; Houston, TX; The Landings in Savannah, GA; and The Eagles, Odessa, FL. They were married 65 years.
Born in Alton, IL, May 12, 1925, Marjorie graduated from Monticello Preparatory School and Connecticut College, New London, CT., Marjorie and her husband raised three children and she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved art and music and devoted her life to charitable works such as the Toledo Symphony Board, Toledo Art Museum, and American Red Cross. She was a Board Member of The Greenwich Community Chest and Council and recipient of the 1973 Thomas R. Shepard Trophy, a member of Blue Bird Children’s Neurological Center (Houston, TX), a member of the “One Hundred” supporting the George and Marie Backus Children’s Hospital and a member of the Junior League for 59 years.
An avid golfer, Marjorie was a member of the Inverness Club, Toledo Country Club, Hills of Lakeway, Austin, TX, The Landings Club, Savannah, GA and The Eagles Golf Club, Odessa, FL.
She is survived by daughters, Ellen Y. McClain JD/LLM, Silver Spring, MD., Shelley A. Young MD, Clearwater, FL, and W. Scott Young III MD/PhD, Gaithersburg, MD and eight grandchildren.
Marjorie was a lifelong Presbyterian and a member of the Hope Presbyterian Church of Clearwater, FL. Funeral services will be private with interment at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions in her name to the Memorial Sloan – Kettering Hospital, NY, NY or to the charity of their choice.
