Marlene R Mason's Obituary
MASON, Marlene 72, of Clearwater passed away January 10, 2017.
Marlene graduated from Clearwater High School and Florida State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of South Florida. Marlene was employed by Morton Plant Hospital for ten years where she developed the Wound Care program, served as shift supervisor and was assistant to the Medical Director when Lyke’s Cancer Center opened. She was recruited to Baltimore where she developed and coordinated the Oncology Support Program and Greater Baltimore Medical Center consisting of a professional interdisciplinary team and served as facilitator of three support groups. She trained and supervised thirty-five volunteers who provided support, home assistance and transportation. Marlene traveled to the Soviet Union and China comparing oncological treatments and philosophies and was named in Who’s Who in American Nursing serving as guest speaker on social media. Upon returning to Clearwater in 1991, she worked for Baycare Home Care until 2012.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed golf and travel and served as usher and Eucharistic Minister at St. Michael’s and Light of Christ Catholic Church. Marlene also volunteered at the SPCA and visited nursing homes with her prize therapy dogs. She is survived by a loving family.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dunedin followed by interment at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater.
