Mary S Danos' Obituary
Mary (Stambolis) Danos, age 90, of Clearwater, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 4, 2024.
She was born in Salem, New Jersey on June 18, 1933, the only child of Efthalia (Pavlis) and John Stambolis. Mary was married to the love of her life, Peter Anthony Danos for 67 years and together they raised two daughters. Mary attended Roxborough High School; however, she never completed her degree as her parents needed her help at their family restaurant. On Mary's 23rd birthday, she was introduced to her future husband by his sister, Theodora, at a church dance marrying 7 months later on January 20, 1957. Throughout the years, Mary loved sharing stories and reliving their sweet courtship. Theirs was a true love affair.
Mary had a passion for jewelry and loved helping people find just the right piece, often becoming emotional along with a couple shopping for engagement rings. Always the romantic! She was encouraged by Mr. Spears, the owner of Wayne Jewelers where Mary worked for many years, to become a Registered Jeweler then a Certified Gemologist. She later worked closer to home at Kaplan Jewelers followed by Warwick Jewelers before retiring.
She was a very active member at St. Luke's Greek Orthodox Church in Broomall, Pennsylvania from the early years of the church. Mary was a Kindergarten Sunday School teacher for 20 years, Ladies Philoptochos Society President (1980-81) and Philoptochos member for over 50 years.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her caring & loving husband, Pete; daughter, Effie Danos; daughter, Joni (Peter) Dagios; granddaughter, Dr. Kelly Bay; grandson, Ian Bay; granddaughter, Sophia Tarabicos; granddaughter, Maria (Alex) Brooks; several nieces, nephews, godchildren, long time friends & relatives who she truly cherished.
Mary and Pete lived a full life together in both Pennsylvania and Florida, as well as experiencing extensive traveling and live entertainment, but it was spending any time with her grandchildren, host of friends & family that brought her immense joy. She was a giver, always feeling the most pleasure from other people's happiness then her own. Her smile, infectious laugh, and deep love will be greatly missed.
Arrangements for Mary will be private. If so inclined, donations to St. Luke's Greek Orthodox Church, 35 N. Malin Road, Broomall, PA 19008, in loving memory of Mary Danos, would be appreciated.
