Mary Johnson's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Mary Margaret Johnson
Mary Margaret Johnson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the age of 74. She was born on September 17, 1950, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to John Frederick Johnson and Florence Eleanor (Horstmeier) Johnson.
Mary was known for the love and care she poured into her home, always taking pride in creating a warm and welcoming space for her family. A talented crafter and avid gardener, she found great joy in the beauty of nature and the satisfaction of working with her hands. Her days were often spent tending to her garden, creating handmade treasures, and caring for the many beloved pets she cherished over the years.
Her deep love for animals was matched only by the love she had for her family. Some of her most treasured memories were of her childhood, growing up surrounded by the warmth of her parents and siblings. Family was everything to Mary—both immediate and extended—and she remained closely connected throughout her life. She found great joy in phone calls and visits from her many nieces, and cherished the shared meals, holiday celebrations, and life’s milestones spent with Barbara, Cara, George, Leah, Gabriel, and Melissa.
Mary was especially grateful for the companionship of her neighbors, Joyce and Bill, whose kindness and friendship brought comfort and joy during a meaningful chapter of her life.
Mary will be remembered for her kind heart, strong opinions, creativity, and the quiet strength with which she nurtured those around her. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.
She is survived by her son, John Elice Johnson; his husband, Geoffrey Marc Podeswa; and their cherished dog, Lily. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Patricia Collier and Jean Crabtree. Mary was preceded in death by her adored parents, John and Florence Johnson, as well as her siblings: John Richard Johnson, Florence Marple, Alberta Kirklin, and Melvin Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to your local animal shelter or garden club in Mary’s honor.
