Mary Lynne Oehlerts' Obituary
Mary Lynne (Schmit) Oehlerts, 73, of Oldsmar, Florida, passed away on August 4, 2016.
Mary Lynne was born in Waterloo, Iowa to Irvin and Dorothy (Marinan) Schmit on December 4, 1942. She was in the first graduating class at Columbus High School and went on to attend college at Marycrest in Davenport, Iowa. A single mother to two daughters, she worked in a variety of career fields, including as a cashier at Publix for the last 15 years, a job she loved and hoped to resume. She fought through many hardships for many years and always persevered.
Mary Lynne’s first priority was always looking out for the girls. An excellent cook, she had a keen eye for decorating and was skilled in sewing and crafts. She had a sharp wit and liked to stay abreast of current affairs, politics, and sports, and especially enjoyed watching the Olympics with her two cats, Sam and Max, by her side. Mary Lynne was also exceedingly generous and caring.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mary Lynne is survived by her daughters, Leslie (Ron) Miller of Crystal Lake, Illinois, and Carolyn Oehlerts of Oldsmar, Florida; her siblings, Ginny (Bob) Lyon of St. Charles, Illinois, Dr. Donald W. (Carrie) Schmit of Waterloo, Iowa, Dick (Jeanne) Schmit of Des Moines, Iowa, Dr. Steven F. Schmit of Urbandale, Iowa , and Dave Schmit of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and her grandchildren, Adam Miller of Los Angeles, California and Colleen Miller of Chicago, Illinois.
She was cremated and an inurnment will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, September 17th at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo.
Memorials may be given to a charity of your choice in her name. The family of Mary Lynne wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Tierra Pines Center and the ICU nurses at Mease Countryside Hospital whose compassionate care was much appreciated during a very difficult time.
