Mary J. Statkus – 1921 – 2018
Mary J. Statkus has gone home to be with Jesus on July 29, 2018, following several stokes which left her with sever paralysis.
She was born in Smithfield, NC where she was raised and later moved to Washington DC where she worked in the Pentagon as a Secretary during WWII and met her late husband Frank Statkus, Jr. who passed away 10 years ago following 62 years of marriage. In 1954 Mary moved to Clearwater, FL with her husband where they lived until Frank passed away. She moved to Port Saint Lucie, FL. 9 years ago to start a “New Normal” life without Frank, making many new friends in the area.
Mary was Mom to two Sons, Tim Statkus with his wife Phyllis of Port Saint Lucie, FL and Skip Statkus with his wife Karrie of Hudson, FL. Mary was also Grandma to 7 Grandsons and Great Grandma to 5 Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 siblings, 2 sisters, Jean Willowford of Goldsboro, NC, Bette Daughtry of Smithfield, NC, and a brother William Johnson of Greensboro, NC, as well as many nieces and nephews living in NC and Virginia.
Mary had a secretarial and administrative career that spanned more than 40 years. She was the Church Secretary for Sunset Point Baptist Church of Clearwater, FL. for 33 of those years where she served the Pastors and Church members with excellence.
Mary left a legacy of love and encouragement for everyone she met. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
