Mathias James Alston, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away on May 22, 2026 just days before his 19th birthday. He was born on May 25, 2007 in Orlando, Florida.
Mathias was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Leslie and Beverly Zarcone of Clearwater, Florida, and his uncle, Tracy Alston of Pontiac, Michigan.
He is survived by his loving parents, James and Holly Alston of Clearwater, Florida; his younger sister, Ella, with whom Mathias shared a special bond with. His older brother, Kenny of Michigan; his aunt, Heather Zarcone of Clearwater, Florida; and his paternal grandparents, James and Lillian Alston of Pontiac, Michigan. He also leaves behind several great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, and many cherished friends.
Mathias will be remembered with deep love by special friends who were family in every way that mattered, as well as by the many close friends whose lives he touched.
From the moment he was born, Mathias brought immense joy to his family. Always smiling and full of happiness, he quickly became the center of his grandparents’ world, inspiring the family to move closer so they could spend time together every day.
As a child, Mathias displayed remarkable intelligence and curiosity. He could mimic nearly any sound he heard and was fascinated by trucks, construction equipment, and large machinery. By the age of four, he had developed an impressive knowledge of dinosaurs, including mastering the pronunciation of their complicated names. His Pre-K teacher joked that Mathias was teaching her about dinosaurs rather than the other way around.
At age five, Mathias learned to play chess and quickly became a formidable player, often defeating opponents three times his age. He began his education at Athenian Academy, where he created lasting memories for both teachers and classmates and formed friendships that extended far beyond the classroom walls.
Mathias graduated from Dunedin High School in 2024. While there he played football for three years. Both on and off the field, he left a lasting impression through his spirit, determination, and loyalty to those around him. He was currently enrolled at SPC where he was working towards his Associates degree.
Mathias also had a deep love for food and fishing — two things that brought him genuine happiness. Whether enjoying a favorite meal with family or fishing with his friends, those moments reflected the simple joys he treasured most.
Mathias will be remembered for his bright mind, his loving heart, his sense of humor, and the joy he brought to everyone fortunate enough to know him. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed every day.
