Matthew Brian Way's Obituary
Matthew Brian Way, 63, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away on February 21, 2026, with family by his side. Matt was born on August 27, 1962, in Metuchen, New Jersey.
Matt graduated from Hanover High School, Hanover, New Hampshire, in 1980. After attending the University of New Hampshire, he worked various jobs from the ski slopes to construction. Matt built a prominent career in the fencing industry, with his last role as the Manager of Eagle Fence Distributing, Tampa, Florida.
During his life, Matt moved throughout the country, living on every coast from New Hampshire to California to Florida and in many states in between. Along the way, he always made friends and memories. But no matter where he was, Matt made an effort to be there for family and friends. He never missed a Christmas, a special event, or a vacation with family and never passed up a chance to play euchre.
Matt loved boating and fishing. He was drawn to water whether it was on Lake Minnewashta in Minnesota, at his lakeside “camp” in Kentucky, or on the waters of Cape Cod, Maryland, and Tampa Bay. He also enjoyed cycling (and motorcycles) and especially loved to play golf, making yearly trips to play in tournaments with his brother, Jim.
Growing up, Matt was both mischievous and lovable, which kept him (mostly) out of trouble. He was authentic, kind, and generous and never short on laughter. Throughout his life, Matt had many adventures that made great stories. He also picked up a few nicknames, but the one that stuck was Mudcat, and, yes, there is a story to go with it.
We all wish we had more time with this wonderful man. Those who will miss Matt the most include his family: brothers James (Chunmei) Daly of Chicago, IL, and Padraic (Jane) Way of Fort Myers, FL; and sisters Katherine (Aharon) Boghosian of Hanover, NH, Jennifer (Mark) Wiley of Baltimore, OH, Colleen (John Kaufman) Way of Dublin, OH, Antoinette (Mike) Mussay of Grayslake, IL, and Donna Daly of Chicago, IL. He was the fun uncle to a host of nieces and nephews: Michael (Sheridan), Adam (Morgan), Rachel (Zachary), Monique, Jonathan (Wai), Anthony (Caroline), Lindsay, Veronica, Cameron, Madeline, Nolan, and Shane; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George William (Bill) and Claudette Way, whom he dearly loved.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 1, from 12-4 p.m., with service at 2 p.m., at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 S. Belcher Rd., Clearwater, FL 33764. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choosing in Matt’s name.
A celebration of life for Matt will be planned at a later date.
