Mavis Edey Street's Obituary
STREET, Mavis Edey "Mave" 89, of Dunedin, passed away June 10, 2018.
Mavis met her future husband, Donald Street, following his return from service in WWII, when he got a job driving the school bus assigned to Pewaukee High School in Pewaukee, WI. Their first date was when she asked him to a Sadie Hawkins Day dance at her school. To this day, the story of their first date remains a family favorite. In 1950 Mavis and Don were married, and all 4 of their children were born in the Milwaukee area.
In 1966 Don moved his family to Florida, and they put down roots in delightful Dunedin. In fact, Mavis lived in the home they moved into for over 50 years.
Mavis loved Dunedin and was always involved in the community. She was a member of the Dunedin Youth Guild for over 45 years and served as the President of the organization from 1991-92. For years she played Mrs. Santa Claus in the annual Dunedin Christmas Parade and had fond memories of riding on a fire truck during the event. Mavis loved the bagpipes, and when two of their children joined school music programs in Dunedin both she and Don became active members of the local band boosters. Mavis also loved to bowl, and she rolled in a league at Dunedin Lanes until she was 80 years old.
Her many interests included: bingo, sewing, craftwork, the Miami Dolphins, the Tampa Bay Rays, and watching old movies. Most of all Mavis doted on her family, which had grown to include not only her 4 children, but also 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Mave” to her family, Mavis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Street. She is survived by her children, Donald M. Street of Poolesville, MD; John W. Street of North Port, FL; Bonnie Street Hamilton of Palm Harbor, FL; and Charles R. Street of Dunedin, FL; as well as her thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, Dunedin Chapel on Friday, June 15th from 2 - 4 pm and 6 - 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, June 16th at First United Methodist Church of Dunedin, of which Mavis has been a member since 1966.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to The Dunedin Youth Guild, Post Office Box 1453, Dunedin, Florida 34698.
