Muriel June McLaren's Obituary
Muriel June (Morey) McLaren, 97, of Dunedin, Florida, died peacefully on December 18, 2023. She was born on June 1, 1926 in West Fairlee, Vermont to Zilla and Wellington Morey. Muriel was a graduate of Lyndon (VT) Teachers College and began her teaching career in Barnet, VT where she met Howard McLaren. After a short courtship, they eloped and were married on April 4, 1949. They produced four boys in short order, which put Muriel’s teaching career on hold for several years. As Howard pursued his own career with New England Power Company, they moved numerous times around Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Muriel returned to teaching in Massachusetts after her sons were all in school. Muriel and Howard were members of the Presbyterian Church in Barnet, VT, but also regularly attended local church services in their many home towns over the years. Muriel loved visiting with family and friends. She enjoyed painting, reading, cross word puzzles, swimming and dance. Since the early 1990s, Muriel and Howard enjoyed their retirement years in the Dunedin, FL area. She was predeceased by Howard in 2013 and is survived by her four sons: William and his wife, Lisa, of Randolph, VT; Robert and his wife, Penny, of Shrewsbury, MA; Stephen and his wife, Sandra, of Rockledge, FL; and Ronald of Clearwater, FL; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on June 15, 2024 at the Presbyterian Church of Barnet Center, 276 Barnet Center Rd, Barnet, VT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mease Life Foundation employee scholarship fund to recognize the wonderful care Muriel received over the last several years from the assisted living staff of Mease Life in Dunedin, FL (https://www.measelife.com/foundation).
