Murray David Segal's Obituary
Murray David Segal, 91, of Dunedin, FL, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024, at Angels Senior Living. Born and raised in East Hampton, CT, he graduated from East Hampton High School. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from University of Miami and a master’s degree in public administration from Northeastern University.
His children remember him as a role model who never thought twice about reinventing himself. He was a Civil Engineer, a Traffic Consultant, an Expert Witness, a photographer, and old advertisement and old poster collector, a typewriter repairman and restorer, and a writer (for which he seemed most proud).
He was a mentor, a friend, a teacher, a sounding board, and the best father anyone could ask for. He never judged, and rarely told his children what to do. He had utter confidence they knew what was best for them. He was clever and hardworking, and he absolutely loved his sweets (i.e., chocolate candy and vanilla and chocolate Haagen Daz ice cream). A New Englander through and through, he loved the ocean and adored his Boston Celtics.
Murray is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Janice Wayne; children, Karen Edwards (Rupert Bullard), Lisa Segal (Jay Rosenfeld), and Paul Segal (Laura Segal); sister, Frances Gensberg (Brookline, Massachusetts); and grandchildren, Drew, Derek, Zach, Olivia, Emma, and Gigi. He is preceded in death by parents, Aaron and Bessie Segal; brother, Melvin Segal; and brother-in-law, Mort Gensberg.
