Nelson John Simmons' Obituary
SIMMONS, Nelson John81, of Clearwater, died peacefully on March 26, 2012. He was born on May 1, 1930, to Julia and Joseph Simmons in Poughkeepsie, NY. He relocated to Clearwater Beach in 1946 and graduated from Clearwater High School in 1948. He was a Staff-Sergeant in the National Guard for nine years. He was a self-employed General Contractor, locally, throughout his entire career. He learned his skills, alongside his father, Joe, with Simmons Construction, as they began their Florida business by building more than 65 houses on Clearwater Beach in the 1960's. He married Jo Ann Neumann at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church on September 2, 1951. They were married for 60 years. He was an active Booster Club member at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, coached and served on the PTA. He was also a former president of the Clearwater Central Catholic High School board. Nelson was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Jo Ann; his son John and wife Sara; his daughter Lori and husband George; his daughter Kathryn; his son Jim, and his grandchildren, Matt and Liz, Jessica, and Amber and Tyler; his sister Joan and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Don, and parents Julia and Joe Simmons. Visitation will be Friday, March 30, from 6-8 pm. A viewing will be held Saturday, March 31, at 10:00 am, with the funeral service following at 10:30 am, all at the Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 1320 Main Street, Dunedin. Burial will follow at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Westchester Assisted Living for the care and kindness they gave to our husband and father.
