Newell F. Phipps

Newell Fletcher Phipps, 88, of Clearwater, FL passed away March 7, 2022 at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. Newell was born August 24, 1933 in Lee County, AL to Newell Eugene and Agnes (Dunford) Phipps, who have predeceased him. After high school Newell joined the Coast Guard, serving 4 years and then went on to receive his B.A. from Auburn University and his M.B.A. from University of Tennessee. Before retiring and moving to Clearwater in 2004, Newell worked with computers for the State of Tennessee and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Nashville. In Clearwater, he was a active member of First United Methodist Church, Clearwater. He loved watching sports and was a die-hard Auburn Tigers fan – War Eagle! Newell treasured his family. He is survived by his wife, Gail W. Phipps; daughter, Elizabeth P. Deering; grandson, Samuel C. Deering; siblings Truman Cawthorne (Herb), Frank D. Phipps (Joyce) and Sarah I. Whidden.
