Nicholas Hionedes' Obituary
Nicholas Hionedes was born in Homestead, PA and passed away on February 11, 2016 in Dunedin, Florida at age 95. He was a proud veteran in the Army Signal Corp during World War II and a Japanese prisoner of war in Corregidor and Japan for 3 1/2 years. He survived death camps and a death march because of his great love of life. He received among his many medals a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was very active in veterans groups and gave many speeches about his time spent in prison camp, the way POWs are treated and his thoughts about war in general . Nick enjoyed spectator sports in addition to his great love for dancing. Nick worked primarily in the insurance industry for Gulf Life until he retired in 1979.
Nick was preceded in death by his first wife Effie Hionedes , his stepson Loyd Jones, and his brothers, Samuel Hionedes, William Hionedes and sister Lelkothea Kallivokas. He is survived by his wife, Ann Hionedes and his two children Dr. Chris Hionedes and Nikki Edenfield, daughter -in- law Diane Jones, his grandson Michael Edenfield and his step grandson Lee Jones.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday February 17th at 10:00 a.m. with a Funeral service to follow at 11:00 am Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 1320 Main Street, Dunedin, FL. Entombment will be at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater at 1:30 pm.
