Norman Joseph Gilbert's Obituary
Norman J. Gilbert, 84, of Palm Harbor, FL passed away on August 17, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born in Stafford Springs, CT the son of Harry and Norma Gilbert of Woodstock, CT on August 7, 1934.
After 18 years of being snowbirds, Norman and Lois became full time residents of Palm Harbor, FL two years ago after spending a majority of their lifetime raising their family in Stafford Springs, CT and vacationing in the Northeast. We have many fond memories of all the friends and family members still in that area.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lois Pellizari Gilbert; his sister and husband, Phyllis and Albert Concato of Woodstock, CT; his sister-in-law and husband, Linda and Wayne Hillebrecht of Stafford Springs, CT; daughter, Beth Ann Gilbert and Joseph Boutin, six grandsons, seven granddaughters, and sixteen great grandchildren; son, Jack Gilbert and Jane Soltys, three granddaughters; nieces, nephew and many wonderful friends.
Norman graduated from Stafford High School, Stafford Springs, CT. He served three years with the US Marines, and was at one time appointed to serve with a select group of 100 marines as Marine Ceremonial Guard for President Eisenhower in Washington DC, then promoted to Sergeant at Quantico, Virginia where he was stationed with the Marine Military Police. Norman retired from Northeast Utilities in 1992 after thirty six years of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to Evergreen Health Care Center, 205 Chestnut Hill Road, Stafford Springs, CT 06076. Funeral services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
