Olive Offenhauser Roff's Obituary
OLIVE OFFENHAUSER ROFF, 93, of Keuka Lake, New York, died unexpectedly on November 10, 2015, while visiting in Dunedin, Florida. Olive was a native of Texarkana, daughter of Gilbert T. and Marjorie (Lombard) Offenhauser, and granddaughter of Fred W. Offenhauser, founder of F.W. Offenhauser and Co.
Olive grew up in Texarkana and attended Texarkana High School. An avid tennis player in her youth, she was Texarkana City Champion. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1943 and, during the war years, she worked as a chemist in the refining industry. On vacation at Keuka Lake in New York State with her family, she met and later married David J. Roff. They owned and operated the well-known Roff’s Sporting Goods for many years in Bath, NY. After her husband’s death, she went on to earn a master’s degree in education from Elmira College and became a master teacher, working until her retirement as an educational specialist in reading and learning disabilities. After retirement, she lived in Dunedin, Florida for many years until she returned to her beloved Keuka Lake in New York State
Always alert and full of life, Olive enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, sports, animals, games, reading, dining out and especially travelling. Her sense of adventure never faded. She is survived by her sister, Margery (Offenhauser) McLean of Little Rock; two daughters, Leslie A. Roff and Claire (Roff) Anderson, both of Keuka Lake; a son David J. Roff, of New Castle, DE; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three nieces and their children, longtime friend and companion Molly McCoy, and many other family members and good friends in Arkansas, Florida and New York. She was greatly loved and will be sadly missed.
Final arrangements were handled by the Moss Feaster Funeral Chapel in Dunedin, Florida. There will be a private service on Keuka Lake in New York at a later time. Condolences may be left at www.mossFeasterdunedin.com or those wishing to connect directly with the family may contact Leslie A. Roff at 366 West Lake Road, Branchport, NY 14418.
