Ollie M Posey's Obituary
Ollie May Posey, 70, of Belleair, FL passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023. She was born December 8, 1952 at home in Pineville, KY to Lewis and Geraldine (Rhymer) Lee.
Ollie earned her strength and grit growing up in rural eastern Kentucky through some pretty tough times. She married Marvin Posey, a handsome coal miner and had three daughters, Yvonne, Eva Cheryl and Marsha. Eva passed as a baby and the family always felt she was their guardian angel in heaven. Ollie, Yvonne and Marsha, all moved to Florida where they would begin a fun and adventurous life. In her early years in Clearwater, Ollie volunteered for the Food Pantry and the Soup Kitchen, as well as caring for many elderly friends that needed rides to the grocery or just a hand to hold during an illness. She said goodbye to many of these friends and often spoke about seeing them again someday in Heaven. She was extremely proud of her son-in-law Ed Droste and was an avid fan of Pete and Shortys and Hooters, dining there so often the servers became some of her closest friends.
Ollie devoted her entire life to being a great mother, fighting through poverty and isolation to get her girls to a place of education and opportunity. Her final years of a too-brief life were spent traveling, attending concerts and enjoying the golf course view from her home in Belleair. She will be remembered for her spunk, kindness and crazy sense of humor, but more importantly for the tremendous sacrifices she made for those she loved. We take comfort in knowing her soul is now free, no further sacrifices are needed, and she can dance without care amongst the stars in Heaven.
The family would like to thank HCA Florida Northside Hospital for their outstanding care over the last few months. Experts and Angels work there around the clock and their efforts will always be remembered.
Ollie’s success in life and the care of her girls were made possible through assistance from organizations that provide shelter, food and healthcare access to those caught in the vicious cycle of poverty. Ollie’s family has created an Ollie Posey Community Care Fund and will be utilizing money raised to support local charities specializing in those needs. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting this cause in her memory. You may do so by following https://everloved.com/life-of/ollie-posey/
Service arrangements for friends and family are still being planned and will be held at Chapel By The Sea, Clearwater Beach, FL.
