Patricia Lillian Mooney's Obituary
Patricia Lillian Mooney, 79, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on August 29, 2024, at her home in Dunedin, Florida. She was 79 years old. Born on July 17, 1945, in New York City to Loretta (née Driscoll) and Vincent Mooney, Pat was raised in Queens Village, the eldest of five. A proud and lifelong New Yorker, she lived in Queens, Manhattan, and Nassau County before relocating to Florida in 2021.
Pat's life was marked by remarkable achievements, particularly within her distinguished career in nursing and healthcare administration. She would look back on her career with gratitude, often recounting heartfelt stories of her patients whose impact she carried with her for decades. However, it was Pat’s boundless compassion, selflessness, and authenticity that truly defined her. She touched the lives of many, leaving a legacy as a giving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
Patricia graduated from Flushing Hospital Nursing School in 1965. She dedicated her life to service and generosity, forging a successful career as an OR and oncology nurse at Flushing Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering. After furthering her education by earning a B.A from Marymount Manhattan College and an M.A from New York University, she transitioned into healthcare administration, serving at Coler Hospital and Woodhull Hospital as the deputy Director of Administration.
Patricia was also deeply committed to her faith and community. During her 25 years as a Sister of Saint Joseph of Brentwood, she managed a senior center in Jamaica and served as the school nurse at The Mary Louis Academy, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to caring for others. She consistently remembered birthdays and anniversaries with gifts, cards and calls and was the glue that held our family together.
Pat is survived by many who mark her passing with immeasurable sorrow mixed with countless fond memories. These include her brothers, Vincent (Celia) and Stephen (Colleen) and her sister, Christine. Nieces and nephews include Christopher (Becky), Erin (Owen), Megan (Mike), Katie (Matt), Kevin and Timothy. Great nieces and nephews: Bailey, Brianna, Michael, Brandon, Ava, Grace, Abigail and Sienna. And lifelong friend, Lois Dugan. Also, her favorite furry friend, Max, who adored her. Pat is predeceased by her parents, Loretta and Vincent Mooney and her brother, Terence Mooney, as well as cherished grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.
Patricia will be forever remembered for her warm heart, unwavering spirit, and the lasting impact she had on all who knew her.
