Veon, Patricia Grace's Obituary
Patrica G. Mayer, born on September 21st 1933 in Chicago was full of beauty and Grace. It was even her middle name. She was a daughter to John and Evelyn Mayer, and sister of John B. Mayer otherwise known as Uncle Jack.
She gave birth to three children, Cheryl, Terri, and Jimmy McMullan in Mississippi where she then married the love of her life, Paul L. Veon, after discovering they had the same birthday and same year. He was applying for a job at the VA which started there first conversation which became a 35 year marriage. He was a 30 year gunny and served in Korea and Vietnam, which is why we're here at Bushnell today. The last time we were here in 2006 she spoke of wanting to be next to him.
After meeting Paul, she then became a step mother to Cathy and Michael. All combined she had 25+ grandchildren and great grandchildren that we know of and counting.
She was a lover of art, she loved to watercolor and paint beautiful flowers and nature scenes even though she was allergic to outdoors, which is also why her skin was so beautiful.
Her next love was of dogs, which she had a shelty named Jax who was born on the same day one year after Paul passed. She always mentioned he had Paul's eyes. Jax lived for 12 years and they played ball everyday.
When you asked Patti what were some of your her favorite parts of her life she would tell you girlfriends. One of which we heard a lot about located in Mississippi and they were still in contact after 60+ years her name is Jimmie Jane.
She made many friends at Stratford Courts and it was a second family to her. Her favorite activities with her friends was playing games and Sunday brunch with unlimited mimoses.
She was very generous and gave to many organizations including boys town, toys for tots, and many others. She loved sending birthday and christmas cards to all of her family.
The day before she passed she mentioned she saw Paul and Jax and wanted to go be with them forever. Cathy was holding her hand when she took her last breath on September 24, 2024, At the age of 91 she
Passed 3 days after her birthday that she celebrated with 18 others friends and family. She lived longer than both her parents.
We know she's at peace and with who she wants to be with in heaven. We thank everyone for coming today and she will always be in our hearts.
